Slake Durability Test Apparatus is used to determine the abrasion resistance by simulating weather-related wetting and drying cycles to evaluate the durability of shale or other weak rock types. Samples are placed in 5.5 x 3.9in (140 x 100mm), dia. x H Wire Mesh Drums and rotated at 20rpm within the 11.5 x 8.5 x 7.5in (292.1 x 215.9 x 190.5mm) WxDxH Water Tanks then oven-dried for two cycles. The Slake Durability Index is the percent sample loss after subsequent wetting and drying cycles.
The apparatus consists of a 4ft (1.219m) long base and is equipped with a double-ended motor drive unit and two Water Tank and Drum Assemblies but can accommodate up to four assemblies for increased testing. Additional Assemblies, Wire Mesh Drums, or Water Tanks can be purchased separately.
